Well, I finished snapping the basic kit and have it sanded smooth ready for paint (nibs cut offand finished). After looking in the reference thread I decided to ditch my previous idea and build something big. So, I'm going to build what I'm calling the BFBP Kampher (Big F@$#%&* Back Pack).

Here's the link to the folder I'll be posting updates in: Click Here
MOD EDIT: EXCESSIVELY LONG LINK. PLEASE USE URL TAGS FOR LONG LINKS

Anyway, more to come...

Welcome to the board erin, and looking forward to some progress.  Gotta love the snapped Kampfers all around....only to see it transform to something completely different...

I've been lurking since day one here at the Foo house. As you know, I do a lot of lurking!

Snappers. I have about 10 kits snapped, waiting for paint. Twas only pure chance the Kampher wasn't done already. I've been avoiding it for a long time, always something shiney to stack on top of that largish box!

I'll probably start cutting styrene sheet tonight. The wing packs don't look too difficult, at least it's all straight lines. I may change the details some to suit the modding tidbits I have casted up. I have some big 1" nozzles I've been dying to use, this may be the project. I also hate the kit feet, they just look too wide and long to me. May make new ones. I'm especially wanting to build a long rifle, lance, something that sticks out a long way. Needs a shield, too. No suit should leave the ship without a shield, just ask Amuro.  :)

One thing is fer sure, it'll be back heavy! Good thing it has nice, tight joints!

Sounds cool. I remember seeing these images somewhere before and I like the look. It's kind of like a Seed style backpack. The bigger the better for sales to kiddies.

Those 1" boosters... they wouldn't happen to be the Wave ones would they? I've been trying to figure out something to use mine on too.

Glad to see you take on the challenge Erin (and choosing the stylish BFBP Kampfer design), I expect some good stuff from you.  8)

Yes, they are the big Wave nozzles. A friend went and bought basically all of the larger Wave nozzles, they fell into some rubber, occasionally some resin falls into the molds. I have tons of them with nothing to use them on...until now. From what I can make out, this backpack is mounted right on top of the stock frame, coming out of the two polycaps on each side of the engine fairings. So, I think the three main engine nozzles on the back will get replaced with huge nozzles. maybe the lower leg nozzles as well. We'll see how it looks, then go from there.

I'll try not to dissappoint, Blah.

Update. Got the "wings" roughed in and the hinges for the mounts turned on my po man's lathe. Pics at the above link.

Now to cram all those thrusters in there....and get them to mesh together when closed....

Looks good, I'm a big fan of that artwork. But do you really have to use Yahoo! Photos? It really sucks.

Updated the folder. Put the vents in the vanes today, and added side detail to them. Also rough shaped the top of the arm wings with ApoxySculpt. Going to need 32 nozzles, so I made a mold and threw in a bunch of different sizes.

Yahoo is what I use. If you want to see the pics, I guess you'll have to suck it up, hunh?

I like the wing things! They look great with the many pieces of pla plate inside.

Anyway, I second the yahoo photos comment. But it seems different now with the ajax and all. Thing is if i want to see a single photo i can't just click on it. Need to drag it into the slot above and play a slideshow. I must say the slideshow plays quite smoothly and quickly which explains the long wating time before it starts.

Feel free to post the URL for the pictures. All you have to do is this:
(url=http://theYahooLinkForThePicturesDotWhatever)Picture Description(/url)
and replace the ( ) with [  ].

Example:
Vents 10/25/06.

Actually, just double clicking on the photos worked to enlarge them for me....
