So I decided to take a quick break in between some commissions to finish something for myself. I decided to finish up Lucas fantastic 1/100 Garbaldy kit, which I had received earlier in the year. The build up was super easy, and everything went together beautifully. The casting on this kit was top-notch! Having built the Briegel last year, I knew I was in for some super detailed parts, and this one did not dissappoint. If I were to rate this kit overall it would be a 9.5/10. The only problem I ran into was the original shoulder piece came broken. Luca stepped up and had another one cast for me, and in my hands without question.

Once I finished up the pinning and general assembly (earlier in the year), I tucked everything neatly back in the box, and set it aside to finish up other projects and some commissions. I then got the urge to tackle painting this monster about a month or so ago, and started working out ideas for color schemes. In looking at all of my other builds, I came to realize I've never done anything red, and for that matter any shade of red. I also knew that I wanted mine to be about as opposite as Lucas as possible (I love the weathered, grimey, dirty look, but I'd never seen a Luca kit in a pristine new scheme). I decided that it would be super clean, and a fresh from the factory look.

The paints are a combination of Tamiya acrylics for the red/maroon, and dark greys. All of the metallics are Mr. Color Super Metallics. I used Super Iron, Super Fine Stainless, Super Gold, and Super Chrome on this build.

I replaced the cast eye on the kit, with an aluminum SP Eye from Mechaskunk and an orange lens. I also used various balls, and springs from Mechaskunk to add the hoses and details.  Decals are a combination of leftovers from Samuel Decal, and waterslides from Kotobukiya.

I am planning on making a nice display base for this one, and have some ideas for things I am going to pick up on my trip to Japan. So check back in a few weeks and the base should hopefully be done.

So enjoy the photos!  And thanks to Luca for creating yet another masterpiece for us to enjoy!  8)

WOAAA :twitch: :twitch:
I LOVE IT!
great work Matt, I'd always want to see G dressing red skirt :D.
As all your works the colour scheme is absolutely awesome.
But now it's different. I can't explain what I feel when I watch a paint like that on one of my models.
I saw it only rusted, so it stunned me a lot.
It's like another model, I love it more than mine for sure.
Thanks for finishing this model too!

Wow!!!  :twitch: I love the colors, you did a great job with the red, silver and gold color scheme. Now all you need is a Char Anzable figure next to the Garbaldy.

Again Matt, Great Job!!!  :-)

WOW! Luca's stuff is amazing, but it's always so weathered. The shiny showpiece version you made is SEXY and really brings out the details! Looks like a lot of hours of masking...

Thanks for the comments so far everyone!  :ninja:

I think this is by far one of my favorites of my collection, and I think one of the ones I was the most excited about finishing.

Funaka - The masking on this kit was what took so long. I would literally spend hours masking everything off just to spend about 8 minutes painting. But I think the effort to mask everything off paid off in the end.

Thanks again guys!

I just saw this, and I really like it.

A lot.

I too dig the weathered look, but I also like shiny - kinda like a new bike kit!  Very nice work, nice and clean.  Take a bow!

So you did it red :pirate2: Looks great. I share Z opinion concerning your two version of the same subject that's very interesting to look at and compare the differents of style.

Bravo

I've really been lapsing about checking the Gallery over here. This looks absolutely stunning, Matt. Truly a crowning achievement to your modeling skills. And the kit itself? Gorgeous!

Is it just me, or is the gold emblem on the shield lifting off a little?

It probably is, it was hard to get that little point to stay down since the surface of the shield has a very slight curve to it.

Amazing work Matt.  When I first saw this I thought "This makes Sazabi like a mass produced grunt", and then I decided that even the Nightingale is no match.  The red scheme is very very eye-catching and goes well with what we die-hard UC fan holds dear to our hearts.   :pirate:

That should sit nicely next to your Zwei.   8)
